What Information Is Needed Before Rotor Balancing?

A practical checklist covering rotor mass, dimensions, journals, speed, construction and the reported vibration problem.

What Information Is Needed Before Rotor Balancing?

Rotor balancing is not determined by weight alone. A useful first review needs enough information to confirm whether the rotor can be mounted safely, driven correctly and corrected without damaging the component.

Minimum information

  • Rotor type and intended duty
  • Approximate rotor mass
  • Maximum diameter and overall length
  • Journal diameters and usable journal lengths
  • Normal operating speed
  • Photographs from both ends and the side

Why the journals matter

The rotor must sit on a suitable support or mandrel. Damaged, tapered, coated or very short journals can make the measurement unstable or require additional preparation.

ParameterDeclared capability
Rotor weightBelow 800 kg
Maximum diameter1.3 m
Rotor length400 mm to 2.5 m
Final job acceptance depends on the complete geometry, centre of gravity, journals, drive arrangement and safe guarding—not only the headline dimensions.
